Privacy Policy

GuideK12 provides this Privacy Policy so you know about our online information practices and understand how we treat the information we receive about you from your use of our website.

GuideK12 Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy details important information regarding the use and disclosure of information collected by GuideK12, LLC and their affiliates (“GuideK12”).  GuideK12 owns and operates the GuideK12.com website and related subscriptions services (“Website”).  GuideK12 also provides services by its employees which are related to the Website (together, the Website and any other services are the “Services”).  This Privacy Policy gives an overview of the information that GuideK12 collects, stores and shares through the Services.

In this Privacy Policy, a user of the Services is referenced as “you” or “your”, and GuideK12 may be referenced as “GuideK12”, “us” or “we”, depending on the context.

This Privacy Policy not only applies to you, but to anyone acting on your behalf, such as an employee, officer, agent, or administrator (hereafter, “you” or “your”).

As a general policy, GuideK12 does not sell any information you provide us for marketing purposes. More specifically, the amount of information collected, stored and shared when you use the Services depends on the extent of your use. The following provides a general overview of GuideK12’s current use and storage of information, but if you have any questions, you are encouraged to contact GuideK12.  By using the Services, we will accept it as your agreement with this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

If you are a general site visitor or a user of SchoolSearch accessed through a school district’s website: GuideK12 may collect and store your IP address and your browser type and may monitor and store all activity on the Website. We may use session cookies for security purposes and to facilitate site navigation, but no persistent cookies (placed to your disk) are used. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, but you may then not be able to use the Website’s full functionality.

In addition to the foregoing uses, GuideK12 uses collected data to: (a) improve the Services and fix errors; (b) customize the content and/or layout of pages for each user; (c) identify areas to improve; and (d) improve security.

Communications from the Site and Opting Out

If you provide us with an email address, we or the Website may send out emails to that address related to our Services.

If you request Services from GuideK12 and provide us an email address or a phone number, we may communicate with you in response to your inquiries. If you no longer wish to be contacted by us, you should tell us that you wish to opt out by using the contact information below.

We do not make other uses of your email addresses, such as selling them to third persons or for marketing purposes by third parties.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Aggregate Information (non-personally identifiable): We may share aggregated information about our user base with others, but this information does not identify individual users. We do not link aggregate user data with personally identifiable information.

Personally Identifiable Information: We do not share personally identifiable information with third parties.  In the event of a security breach, we may disclose personally identifiable information to the extent necessary to address the breach.

Information Provided by Users: If you voluntarily provide information to GuideK12, such as in response to a survey, we may share that information with others to improve services.

Service Providers: We may contract with others to provide certain data storage services related to the Services who may have access to personally identifiable information, but they are prohibited from using your personally identifiable information for any purpose.

Legal Disclaimer: We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on GuideK12.

Log Files

As is true of most web sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files.  This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, pages viewed, referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, geographic location, and clickstream data.  Your activity on the Website may be linked to your IP address.

We also use Google Analytics, which stores certain log files.  We do not have control over the log files stored by Google, and you should contact them if you have further questions about their policies.

We use this information to analyze trends, to administer the Website, and to track users’ movements around the site.

Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)

We may employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web Bugs), that help us better manage content on our site by informing us what content is effective.  Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users.  In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on Web pages. We do not tie the information gathered by clear gifs to our customers’ personally identifiable information.

Links to Other Sites

The Website may link to other sites that are not owned or controlled by GuideK12 and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites.

We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read the privacy policies of each site that collects personally identifiable information. This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by or through the Website or the Services.

External Data Collection

We may use various Google services for some of the Services and we have no control over their collection of information and thus cannot be responsible for it.  To our knowledge, Google does not obtain any personally identifiable information through our Website.

Do Not Track Signals

The Website takes no action to circumvent or override your browser’s do not track signal.

Children

The Services are not intended for use by children, and anyone under the age of eighteen shall not use the Website or the Services.

Security

The security of your personal information is important to us. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it.  However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of storage is 100% secure.  Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

If you have any questions about security on the Website or the Services, you can send an email to GuideK12 at the contact information below.

Changes in this Privacy Policy

GuideK12 reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time, so please review it frequently.  If GuideK12 decides to change it, we will post those changes to this Privacy Policy and other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.  If you use the Services after we have posted changes to this Privacy Policy, we will accept it as your agreement to the new Privacy Policy for your use of the Services, both before and after the date of the changes.
